The 2-Minute Estate Plan Checkup Every Homeowner Should Do
An estate plan is only as strong as its weakest link. Here’s a fast checklist to ensure your plan will actually keep your family out of probate:
✔ Do you have a will AND a trust?
A will alone doesn’t avoid probate. A trust does.
- Is your home properly titled?
Trust deed? TOD designation? Survivorship? This is where most plans fail.
- Are your beneficiaries up to date?
Life changes — your documents should too.
- Do your financial accounts match your trust?
If they aren’t titled or beneficiary-designated correctly, they may still end up in probate.
- Has your plan been reviewed in the last 3 years?
Laws change. Life changes. Plans should be updated.
Why I Share This
As a Realtor who works closely with a local estate-planning attorney, I’ve seen both sides:
- Families who had everything set up properly
❌ And families blindsided by probate because one small detail was overlooked
My goal is to help as many people as possible avoid the heartbreak, delays, and costs that probate can bring.
If you’d like an introduction to the estate attorney I work with — or want to review your plan — I’d be honored to help.
